was started by Jodi lee Middleton and her husband Shane in 2004 after they discovered they
were expecting. The couple had just moved to sunny LA and like all couples who get excited about a
new arrival, the two couldn’t help but hit the department stores to get that baby on it’s way to having
a style’n wardrobe and to both of their disappointment most everything was a blah shade of pastel and
covered in trucks and bunnies. So what does any creative couple do when they can’t find what they
want? They roll up their sleeves and make it!
Jodi lee gathered up some old band shirts and vintage fabrics and took to the sewing machine while
Shane loved the idea of teaching himself to screen print and coming up with hip shirt designs. One
thing lead to another, and what started as a fun way to dress their new lil’ dude turned into selling baby
clothes out of their diaper bag due to getting stopped on the street so frequently with the question
“WHERE did you get that outfit?” The diaper bag became a large box of clothing in the back of the car,
which became selling to a local stores and “snap” a business was born!
In January of 2007 SandBox Rebel opened it’s first flagship store in Valley Village, CA. The store
helped SBR expand it’s knowledge of the children’s retail world on top of providing a great opportunity
to teach sewing and crafting classes to the community. Today SandBox Rebel is still rock’n out hip new
eco-friendly threads for the wee world. Jodi lee still manages to pull Shane away from his Hollywood hair
styling career every once in a while to whip out a few new screens, and their "lil dude" has expanded his
position with the company from Muse to, Model, Spokesperson and even Assistant to Designer (all at the
ripe age of 6... Don't worry Child-Labor-Board, we pay with benefits!). SBR has become so much more
than just another children’s clothing company; it’s an adventure of creativity, the love of something new
and different and the embrace of the little “rebel” kid in all of us.
